Blended Paediatric First Aid

First aid is a vital life skill — and when you’re caring for young children, it’s more important than ever. Paediatric first aid is a key requirement for anyone working in early years settings, and is a requirement for those working towards Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications.

Nannies and childminders also require paediatric first aid, particularly if they wish to register with Ofsted.

We offer flexible paediatric first aid training to suit your needs. We can offer the two-day face-to-face courses or the blended learning option. Simply let us know your preference when booking.

Our blended Paediatric First Aid course combines some prior online learning which can be done at your own pace. This is followed by a day of in-person training. It will give you the full 12 hour paediatric first aid certificate.

This option is especially popular with nurseries and preschools, as it minimises time away from the workplace.

The course is suitable for nannies, childminders, nursery nurses, and anyone working within the early years sector. It can be completed as a first-time qualification or as a refresher.

    What is a Blended Paediatric First Aid Course?

    It is a paediatric first aid course which is delivered part online and part face to face.

    This blended paediatric first aid course is suitable for anyone who works with young children.

    It is delivered in two parts.  First of all the learner completes an online course and then the second part is delivered face-to-face.  

    The course content meets Ofsted requirements for first aid training in Early Years settings.

    Part 1 - interactive elearning module with videos and voice over. 

    It can be done at any time before you attend the face to face training in several sittings if needed. 

    Once you confirm that you are attending the course or book a space you will be sent a code which you can use to complete the elearning module.  This needs to be completed before the online part.

    Part 2 is a one day face to face course where you will learn and demonstrate all the practical sections of the course

    Course Content:

    • Role of a first aider, accident reporting and the first aid box
    • Action planning in an emergency
    • Unconscious baby or child
    • Infant, child and adult resuscitation (CPR )
    • Infant, child and adult action for choking
    • Head injuries
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Treatment for bleeding, shock and burns
    • Treatment for sprains, strains and fractures
    • Poisoning, bites and stings
    • Eye, nose and ear obstructions
    • Childhood conditions
    • Asthma and respiratory infections
    • Diabetes, Sickle Cell Anaemia,
    • Meningitis
    • Epilepsy and Convulsions Hypo/Hyperthermia

     

    There is a short multiple choice assessment at the end of the face-to-face learning day and there will be ongoing assessment by your trainer throughout.

    Safety First offers this course as open courses and also on site for groups.  Recommended ratio is 12 learners to 1 trainer.
