How to keep safe on bonfire night
    • Sparklers

Most children love to hold sparklers and watch them burn.  Usuall parents will tell their children to avoid hot things but on firewroks night the are allowed to hold sparklers.

With them burning at around 2000 degrees faranheit the risk of burning is high.  Some was to reduce the risk is to supervise them at all times and have a bucket of cold water hand for the sparklers to be put in when they have burnt out.

If your child sustains a burn, do not burst any blisters and cool it under running water for 20 minutes and seek medical advice

    • Bonfire safety

Again bonfires are attractive to watch and even add wood to.  Some people like to toast marshmallows on the fire and make shmores.  If you have a fire make sure an adult is present at all times with the children.  Give your child a boundary which they must not cross or if they are toasting marshmallows make sure you accompany them to the edge of the fire and stay with them.

Again if they get burnt cool it and seek advice as soon as possible.

    • Marshmallows and food

If you are serving food or providing food for guests there are a few things you can do to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.

Make sure the food is properly cooked before serving,

Be aware of allergies and what is in the food you are providing to your guests.

Encourage the children to stand still when they are eating and not to run around with food in their hand or their mouth in order to reduce the risk of choking.
