Signs of a Heart Attack

People often do not know the signs of a heart attack until it is too late.  Knowing the signs could save your life.  A heart attack often starts when a person is conscious and can occur at rest.  If you know what to look for you can seek help at the appropriate time reducing the risk of collapse and cardiac arrest.

• Dizziness and weakness
• Sweating heavily
• Pain which is “tight” or “vicelike” in the chest
• pain in the neck, jaw or arms
• Tingling to the arm
• Difficulty breathing
• Vomiting
• Changes in skin colour

• Keep Calm
• Call an ambulance
• Keep them sitting comfortably
• If appropriate give an aspirin to chew on (as long as there are no allergies and they are over 16)
