With temperatures being hot, hot, hot it is vital for us to look after ourselves out there in the sun ☀️. There is no doubt the sun can boost your mood as well as your vitamin D supply, but remember to enjoy it safely. There was a great sun safety awareness campaign in New Zealand some years ago.
It is really important to keep your skin covered by a loose shirt or t shirt. Sun suits are a great way to protect your toddlers or small children.
This is really important in the heat of the day between 11am and 3pm.
When dressing yourself don’t forget to cover your head and wear a hat. This will keep the sun of your face and protect your head helping to reduce the risk of sun stroke.
Remember to use sun screen, and to top it up regularly.
It should be at least factor 30 and have a 4 star UVA protection which you can check on the side of the bottle. For whole body covering you should aim for 2 tablespoons in an adult. Put it on at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun and then re apply at least every 2 hours.
Drink plenty of water. It is vital to remain hydrated in the hot weather. To keep the water cool try freezing 🥶 bottles of water in the fridge the night before you go out.
If you have a small breast fed baby offer the breast more often, use cooled boiled water in bottle fed babies under 6 months and give small children extra fluids in the form of ice lollies and plenty of fruit, water melon 🍉 is very refreshing.
Stay out of the sun especially in the heat of the day between 11 and 3pm.
