Doulas provide care in the family home for babies and children, either working with the family during the time of birth and before or providing support after the baby has arrived.
Working with small babies and children is a really rewarding career.
You will be supporting families with their new arrival or arrivals, looking after the well being of both parents, baby and even siblings.
When working with people at their most vulnerable time, it is really important to be able to recognise when the baby is becoming sick so you can act quickly, support the parents, and communicate with the emergency services.
You may be involved with food preparation when looking after the mum in the post natal period, making sure she is well nourished both for herself and her baby.
It is also vital to be able to recognise when things are not quite as they should be, a knowledge of safeguarding is key to protecting small children and babies. Everyone has a duty to protect vulnerable children.
